Walking tour of Parenzano

120 years ago, on December 15, 1902, a train passed through the Buje-Poreč route for the first time, traveling on the then new narrow-gauge railway Parenzano. This opened the second section of the aforementioned railway connecting Trieste and Poreč. Totally 123 kilometers long, it meandered through the green landscapes of Istria and connected 33 Istrian towns.

In the last ten years, parts of Parenzana have been converted into a pedestrian and bicycle path, unique for the viaducts, tunnels and railway stations preserved along the route, from the time when a small locomotive rumbled along it every day.

On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the first train ride from Buje to Poreč, a hiking trip is being organized from Buje to Grožnjan and back, along the restored Parenzana route.
